Sir Soumitra Kumar Mallick | Chair Professor | Indian Institute of Social Welfare and Business Management

Sir Soumitra Kumar Mallick Distinguished for serving more than three decades to the field of education, Sir Soumitra Kumar Mallick currently excels as a chairman and professor at the Indian Institute of Social Welfare and Business Management, the first management institute in India. In his role, he handles administrative aspects such as attending meetings, scheduling office hours and helping his fellows in addition to managing the technical aspects of the job. Dr. Mallick has previously worked as PricewaterhouseCoopers and was a professor at Bronx Community College of CUNY. He has also been a visiting junior chair professor at the Sir Ashutosh Mukherjee University Institute.

Dr. Mallick earned Intermediate Physical Sciences & Mathematics and Bachelor of Commerce with honors in commerce, economics, business mathematics and statistics from Saint Xavier’s College of Calcutta University in Kolkata, India in 1983. Subsequently, he passed the Chartered Accountancy Final Exam two years later. Dr. Mallick proceeded to the United States to pursue his Doctor of Philosophy, graduating the from New York University Graduate School of Arts and Science, with an economics specialization, in 1993, having been a development fellow earlier.

As a commitment to his field, Dr. Mallick has been active with several industry-related organizations, such as the Indian Statistical Institute, Mathematical Finance Society at the University of Sydney, Econometric Society, Royal Economic Society, American Mathematical Society, Association of Computing Machinery and European Physical Society. Throughout the course of his career, he has authored numerous scholarly articles and research monographs. Credited as a joint editor for the Indian Institute of Social Welfare Business Management journal, Dr. Mallick additionally flourishes as an editor for macroeconomics and insurance economics for Project for Research Papers in Economics. He is also editorial board member of Finance & Market and Journal of Composite Materials and has been “Einstein” Chair of Natural Sciences at the Institute of Advanced Study of Princeton University between 2019 and 2021.
